Solution: There is a municipality in Hungary, Egyházasdengeleg, where there is no local business tax and part of the vehicle tax can also be refunded. Problem: In grant applications, the company’s registered address matters a great deal. For certain grants, a Budapest-based company may not even be eligible, or can only apply for significantly less funding and under less favorable conditions.

Problem: We had a client who was charged over 1 million forints in property tax in downtown Budapest on an average apartment – retroactively for five years – simply because they had a dormant company registered there with no income. Moreover, they had been living there for years, and out of nowhere, a letter arrived demanding payment. They appealed and pleaded, but it didn’t sway the local government – they had to pay the property tax. Payment is required even if the apartment is their primary residence. They say that if the company is registered at the address, that alone is enough under the law and local regulations for the apartment not to be exempt from property tax.
